For those of you who haven't already heard, Wiz Khalifa is coming to champaign at the assembly hall! Wiz Khalifa is an up and coming rap artist, most recognized for his song Black and Yellow along with his large number of mix-tapes one of which, one the award for mix-tape of the year. I love concerts and I really want to go see Wiz live. There is one problem, the concert is scheduled for the night of prom. So now I am faced with the difficult decision of prom or concert.
Prom is a big deal to a lot of people and it seems to really be a big event for high-schoolers. Prom has its draw backs of course. Unlike most of the Uni dances prom has a higher price tag. The ticket price is very high, at least in comparison to the other Uni dances, but hey they provide more for you so you aren't just paying for entry in a sense. Prom has many expenses attached to including renting or buying a nice suit, not only that but as a guy I will probably have to buy expensive food for myself and whatever date I end up finding.
Going to a concert has its expense as well although it seems like relatively little in comparison to prom. The ticket price for the concert is 35 dollars which is the typical price for most assembly hall concerts. From what I have heard Wiz is supposed to bring a decent stage presence to his concerts so it might be quite a bit of fun.
So what should I do? I'm leaning towards the concert right now and I'm a junior so prom isn't quite as big of a deal. Uni also tends to have a record of not so great proms so I think going to the concert is a smart choice.
Good post. You lay this dilemma out well.
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to say go to the concert. From what you say, that's really more important to you. I know people who skipped their proms and never regretted it. (And I don't spend much time reminiscing fondly on mine.) I think the only reason to be sure not to miss prom is if you have someone really special you want to go with. And you're a junior, so you can always hit prom next year.
I definitely agree with Ms. Majerus on this one. I really respect you for considering this seriously and leaning towards the concert. Not to bash people who plan Prom but Prom is much more of an obligation than anything unless there's a person you're dying to go with. Seriously props to you for wanting to choose what you want to do, not what others think or say you should. I would say go with the concert- it will be a much more fulfilling experience than Prom. And cheaper :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I'm an avid wiz fan so I definitely chose the concert over prom. I got seats the first day they were being sold in A section. The next day I found out that I have a soccer tournament in indianapolis the weekend of the concert/prom, so unfortunately I won't be able to attend either. so sad :[
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I'm going to prom, but i am disappointed that the wiz concert is on the same day. I haven;t been to a concert since Jay-Z last year, so going to see Wiz would have been cool, and Mac Miller opening would have been a special treat. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait until somebody else comes to Assembly Hall.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what was said above. Unless you find someone that you desperately want to go with, Wiz is cheaper and you will probably have more fun. There is always senior year for prom.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely go to the concert, and I'm on the prom planning committee. It's definitely the more important thing to you, and it's not like there won't be another, equally expensive, overrated dance for you to go to next year!
ReplyDelete(Plus 35 is way cheaper than the prom ticket is going to be...)
1. Go to Concert.
ReplyDelete2. Go to Prom after parties.
3. ????
4. Profit.
